SPORTS MASSAGE LONDON: highly recommended
Our Sports Massage clinic is based in the City of London close to Liverpool Street, Bank, Moorgate and Barbican Tube stops.
We've been offering Sports Massage in London for over 8 years, our clinic on London Wall has proven very popular with clients working in the Square Mile.
"I can highly recommend Peta McSharry ... I am serious - this woman is a wonder! Very knowledgeable and a serious sportswoman herself (long distance cyclist), she gave me lots of tips as well as the massage. I went from barely able to walk on Monday and Tuesday to walking a mile on Wednesday, cycling on Thursday, pilates on Friday and cycling and a short run on Sunday. I would not have believed it possible. Sports massage is the best!"
EmmaP - London Marathon 2009
Peta is a sports and remedial massage therapist and forms the backbone of the Sports Massage Zone. She has been treating clients for over 6 years ranging from sports injuries and day-to-day work related issues, to cases in which conventional medicine had given up, some of which are documented as case studies.
Peta uses a combination of techniques and constantly updates her skills. Whilst it is often hard to define what type of massage a therapist does, she does, however, have a clear ethos by which she works and plays sport. Believing nothing is impossible, she never gives up.
In treating clients, she looks for the causes of why something is hurting, she will offer advice, exercises or stretching which may, overtime, help eliminate the ongoing problem. When it comes to cycling, there are times when she knows she should have given up, but didn't. With clients she is different, referring them on if she knows is not within her realm of expertise or her specific treatment is not right for the job.
Marathon Training
It's that time of year again where the London marathon training plan gets dusted off. Having worked with injured marathon runners for over 6 years, we've seen the same problems through the door every year. It is disheartening to see runners who have trained for 4 months coming in with injuries before the big day knowing that some of these could have been avoided with some easy to follow remedial exercises.
This year we are being proactive and have introduced a Marathon MOT, essentially we will run some tests which look at muscle imbalances known to cause running injuries, give you remedial exercises, look at any other issues and complete the session releasing any tight muscles. We won't hold it against you if you are doing the Brighton marathon or the Paris marathon, all marathon runners are welcome. Here is more about the marathon MOT and how to book.
Sports people
As sports people we tend to push our bodies hard, short-changing it on recovery and sleep in the quest of balancing work, life and sport. Or in some cases fitting work and life around sport. Her treatment varies according to your goals, which may change from week to week, depending where you are on your training programme or race plan. This could be from treating specific issues hampering your training, aiding recovery during heavy training periods or livening the legs up before a race. Peta's advice doesn't stop at exercises and stretches, she enjoys seeing people excel and if there is a piece of information that she thinks will help, she is happy to pass it on.
"I want to thank you again for all your help - not just the treatment but the advice too. I'm so proud of having got round (running all the way - no sneaky walk or loo breaks!) Couldn't have done it without you."
Office work and everyday life
As we slowly loose our battle against gravity, changes in our posture result in the body's inability to heal a problem. Add to that the chemical imbalance stress causes in our bodies, it's no wonder we go home tried and aching after doing nothing all day. Or are we doing nothing, Peta begs to differ. She has some interesting editorial she's been researching and will be posting under articles.
While it says Sports Massage at the top, Peta's training has also been in remedial massage too - ideal for the challenges we face being desk bound. Once again, she will look for obvious signs of daily postures that are causing ongoing issues, treat them and offer advice to change and hopefully eliminate them. She says "hopefully" as part of that element is beyond her control, you would have to make the changes to ward off those ongoing issues.

"It is rare to find someone who has such obvious enthusiasm for the work they do and such passion for getting to the bottom of a problem."
